Who is Von Escueta?

Just to give you a brief background about me, I was born and raised in a small town in Batangas, I am an average guy to be exact. As a typical Filipino kid, you’re brain has been wired to pursue this career path: Study hard -> Get a good grade -> Go to a reputable university or college -> Graduate on time -> Land a good job.

This is where most of us built our dreams and future, we imagine getting a job either local or international, ’cause our parents manage to unconsciously planted this idea that getting a good job will give you good money, but the truth is, it’s not, and I failed and stumbled on that same path, I was not studying hard, so I’m not getting any good grades, I manage to finish secondary school and went to a reputable university, but failed again in studying hard and getting a good grades because of friends and vices, so I was kicked out of school. I transferred into a college in our province and continue my studies and manage to graduate in 2009.

I immediately landed a job as an Assistant Manager for one of the leading food chains in the country and it lasted for almost 2 years. The tasks were daunting and tiring, and I’m getting Php 14,000.00 a month, that’s roughly US$270–275 a month. But this is where I built my foundation, I’ve learned basic sales management, basic marketing management, how to interact with clients, how to research for leads and prospects using ancient marketing tactics and so on.

With the urge of a higher salary, and an upscale lifestyle, I decided to quit my job, went out abroad as a tourist and try pursuing a career out of luck. I managed to land a job into the retail world. I was a Customer Business Executive for a cosmetic & fragrance distributor, and I can say it’s rewarding, since it was my very first job abroad, I’m earning dollars, though not that much, but I can send money back home and keep food for the table. I am now dealing with international clients, my marketing skills was enhanced and my confidence went up like rocket and I’m mastering the art of advertising and marketing. But I was unfortunate that their government didn’t allow me to renew my contract and I was forced to go back home after a year.

As I went back and start a new life here, I was hired by a local company that distributes luxury brands with physical stores in top malls around the metro, I became a Store Supervisor for 2 years, handling top brands and dealing with high-value clients. This is where I started building my connections locally, I practiced my confidence, knowledge and skills when it comes to sales and marketing. At the peak of my career, my father died and I was forced out of depression to resign, I quit my job and ventured in the BPO industry, I was hired by one of the top BPO company in the metro, but it didn’t last that long, since it was not for me at that time. It was an inbound sales position, and the account deals with US and Canada clients, after a year I resigned.

I was contacted by an international brand that will soon establish their store in the Philippines and I was given an offer that I couldn’t reject, It was a managerial position with a sufficient salary to keep a stable cash flow for me and my family. So I grab the opportunity and started to establish myself again. It was when my cousin discussed that he’s working online and manage to get a new Mitsubishi Montero 2017 that I decided to pursue an online career. I started studying and learning tools and applications and jargon words from December 2016 up until January 2017 where I initially tried working online.

I started out as a Virtual Assistant for an Associate Producer of a Podcast, this is a part-time job which I’m doing as soon as I got home from work. So technically, I was juggling 2 works in a day, the job lasted for 6 months, I’ve gained so much from my boss that it made me do research and forced me to learn things that I wouldn’t imagine learning. I am not a “technical” guy, I am not into codes or HTML or programs, but I’ve managed to learn and that’s the reason why I focused my learning into Digital Marketing and eCommerce.

Those experiences helped me a lot, it mold me into a person that can deal with clients either in person or online. Having 8 years of sales and marketing experience, and some skills and knowledge with Online Marketing and eCommerce, I’ve decided to share how I went around from being a competitor in the so called “Rat Race” to the “Be Your Own Boss” type of guy.
