if you ask me what i think of

when i think of home

i see myself at the dining table

dinner time

with the platter of fruit showcased

our prized possessions

as valued as gold

i see friday nights in the living room

movie night

my parents share a papaya and a spoon

i see early tuesday mornings

my mother cuts a mango for my brother’s lunch

i see lazy saturday afternoons

i pick the ripest peach

so sweet i think my teeth are going to fall out

there was a fruit

for every day of the week

mangos, guayabas, granadas

manzanas, naranjas, cerezas,

ciruelas, papayas, peras

fresas, frambuesas,

duraznos
