Truth and time walk into a bar

I have always found writing difficult though it is a part of my job. However, with guidelines and briefs in place, that is a cakewalk compared to consistently writing this blog. While ideas are easy to come (thanks bathroom!), and words even easier to find (thanks Google!), reflecting my thoughts truthfully is the major roadblock. The truth is tricky. Historically speaking, the truth usually does not belong to anyone, it does not follow a dictated timetable, and most importantly, it is rarely merciful. Irrespective on which side of the truth you are, good or bad, oppressed or oppressor, it comes at a cost, is rarely music to the ears, and only guarantees resolution. This could probably explain why we falter with the virtue of truthfulness individually as well. While it is easy to ask for the truth, or claim to speak the truth, we are seldom ready to listen to the truth.

Talking about being merciless, time is right there with the truth. Unaffected, unmoved and mostly impervious to situation or pain, it keeps on ticking away. Time is neither our best friend nor our worst enemy. It is merely indifferent to us. Most importantly, contrary to popular belief, time certainly does not tell. While time does not care what we think or do, it certainly welcomes us to move with it. While our past remains static and the future uncertain, time always promises a malleable present, which brings us to life’s most pondered question, what are we going to do with it?

While time and truth are merciless, love is the only thread you can pull on in the face of both. Love transcends time and provides compassion to deal with the truth. If it weren’t for love, humanity would never move past the horrors of war and its aftermath. If it weren’t for love, you wouldn’t move past the death of a loved one or a broken heart. If it weren’t for love, the cycle of life wouldn’t thrive in the face of unforgiving truth and remorseless time. Therefore, the people you love must know that you love them. Be it your parents, friends, children, spouse, or lover, let them know how you truly feel in time, irrespective of their response. And probably then, the truth might set you free, and in time you might make memories.
