How F.R.I.E.N.D.S taught us to Live Laugh and Love!

Hey Guys,

Friend Reunion is coming up and we cannot help but be excittteddd about it. Like all true die heart fans of Friends, I am just looking forward to see how it changed the lives of the stars who enacted the actual characters. Needless to say, each one of them has a charisma of their own with a layered depth of their own personal and professional struggles.Their real stories are what makes the characters almost life like. The sanity and insanity, the perfections and imperfections resonates with our lives often making it so closely woven around our own life experiences.What is even more awesome about the series is that even after 27 years, the storyline still remains relevant.

Since now, we are all stuck within the confines of our homes ( and just like me, you are also probably binge watching Friends) with the destruction raging all around of us, its time that we introspect a little and understand how something as lively and as heartwarming as Friends, can actually give us a perspective to live the life that remains ahead of us.

So lets indulge in all the goodness that F.R.I.E.N.D.S had to offer us:

Life is all encompassing. It is not meant to be judged and this message is somewhat very subtly and clearly stated through Friends. Throughout the series we found how each of the character struggled with their lives and in finding their self worth. They all have a missing piece in their characters which makes them appear crude rather than appear perfectly polished and fine, but these imperfections make them unique in their own ways and its beautiful how all the friends incorporate this about each other and help each other out, come what may.

You might be all weird (like our adorable Pheobe), or might be a little wacky (like our quick wit Joey ;), or a drama queen (like the beautiful Rachel), or Humour struck (Like Chandler) or ever so confused (like Ross), or Bossy (like Monica), who cares what colours you have to your character. They are all your own. They make you and they make you unique and that is what is your USP. Stick with it and be awesome because you know what, you are amazing the way you are.

You Know What they say “Hakuna Matata”

We all have been in and out of our deep shits and at times it has dragged for so many years that it felt as if its a curse that we have been born with and it will stick, for the rest of our lives. This is even more relevant now, as we are facing so much uncertainity and grief. Plus staying within the confines of our home, dragging all day long to complete the works and deadlines, make us suffer endlessly on a day to day basis. But what if you could just let youself lose and be the true hidden version that you safely veil behind your stiff public identity.

In the series we saw how uncertain Joey’s career was. We also saw how, almost all of them got in and out of unemployment phases. There was an added pressure of belonging with someone and find acceptance with one’s partners and one’s body as well. But they still battled it out with joy and grace. Its funny how their sorrows and pain points often gave us the chance to laugh out loud, just because they could afford to be all quirky about it. What if we do the same? I know life isnt always that quirky, most of the time its frustating, but if at all we could say once in a while, “Gam ko Maaro Goli, Baato Khushi” , we could just be fine for atleast sometime. I promise!

Being Weird Is Awesome

Okay, quick question,

Why do you love Phoebe or Joey so much? They are a little inept (more innocent and child like) and yet they are pretty popular. Right?

But I wonder how characters like Joey and Phoebe will fare in real life. Probably, Phoebe will scare the shit out of you when she shares her past life stories, or when she tells you that her mother’s spirit is in your cat or when she tells you that you are probably going to die, when she is about to set her next appointment with the dentist. I mean, thats a sort of conversation which is likely to prompt a red alert in our head. But its amazing how she finds so much acceptability among her audience even when she is perfectly weird to start with.

Joey on the other hand, take some time (quite a reasonable amount of time) to figure out things. Yet he has his way, is smart, undeniably handsome, and what we love the most about him is how much child like innocence he carries with him. Just too Cutee!. So how does it matter that he is a bit inept. We all have been inept at some point of time and have made absolute fool of ourselves and lets be honest, we arent going to master and know everything around us before we die. Thats certainly impossible feat to achieve, then why care, how people perceive you, or how foolish you appear to be. But just one piece of advice in this, unlike Joey, do some research before believing something that you come upon, most of what makes it in front of your eyes is probably a lie. I am pretty sure this will help you do modestly well.

Wrap your head around Relationship, Marriages, Kids and Divorce:

Lets face it, we are all in that point of our life where we are either utterly confused about our relationship status, marriage plans, baby plans or even our understanding about our own selves. Sometimes, the plans may not work as per our expectations, and sometimes we may have to let go off lot of things which are dear to us but somehow does not fit well in the larger scheme of things. Sometimes things may take an unexpected route and make you fall off your chair, but all these moments ,Friend have cradled us to develop a mindset of understanding the problems from a larger perspective.

Phoebe chose to become a surrogate mother for the happiness of her brother, who was her only family. Rachel and Ross had an unwanted pregnancy and decided to continue with it, even when they were split about their relationship status. Monica and Chandler who yearned for a child, could not have the joy of bearing one. These complications are real my friend and they bring along a lot of stress to be honest. Its not an easy sail, and yet each one of them had the power in their hands to decide how to face it and how to deal with it and they dealt with it quite handsomely.

Our relationships are more or less same. There may be few times when we find everything to be bright and rosy, but the rosy aspect may quickly just become dull and complicated. Added to this is the fact that the society tends to judge and people are ruthless with their judgements. But even then we have the power in our hands to decide how we actually want things to take place. We just need to understand this and work accordingly, because more often than not we may tend to become prey of our own thoughts and then all the demons get unleashed in our head, reminding us how terrible humans we are.

Honestly, there is a lot more that Friends has taught us or given us and its a fairly long list. Also, coming up with this took a lot of determination, self convincing and push to finally be able to write something up and I cannot tell you how liberating it is. Its stupid but its like a therapy that I indulged in and gave myself this momentary freedom of coming up with something like this. So right Now, I am :
